Portfolio Artifact #2

Personal Learning Journal: Tool Module

The Tool module has been very educative to me, as I have learned some skills I longed for in my professional life. At the beginning of the module, I did not know how to create effective Presentation, and Concept mapping tools and Photo Blogs.

After reading the step-by-step tutorial materials, I have been greatly helped to acquire skills of creating slides in PowerPoint Presentation with hyperlinks, attach sounds and other animations.

My interaction with the professor using the Whiteboard was another exciting learning experience for me. Professor Johnson-Taylor was able to guide me on how to activate or invite a colleague to the synchronous chat like the Interactive Whiteboard.

I found Practicum assignments very informative and enjoyable. For example, I was able to use Excel data manipulation tool to create a more effective gradebook than before.

It is worthy noting here that all the three discussion ideas in this module went on as planned. I liked the reminder by the professor to encourage us to interact with other classmates we had not discussed with in previous modules. This gave me an opportunity to share experience with other students on how they have been using the computer as a mindtool to encourage learners in critical thinking.

Another interesting learning aspect for me in the Tool module was the reading on the arguments that underlie the campaign to computerize the nation’s schools in the United States. The article gave me insight and prepared me for what I may expect in my home country, as we will be trying to introduce or implement the use of computers I n education or the classroom.

On the project or lesson plan assignment, I was impressed with the ideas of Concept Mapping in Inspiration software and Presentation tool. As a result, I decided to prepare a lesson plan using my newly acquired skills in PowerPoint Presentation. This is due to the fact that I am expected to go and use the same tools or strategies in presenting lessons to college tutors, student teachers and other professionals in my country.

In conclusion, I can confidently say that I have learned a lot of skills in the Tool module. I will be able to apply the skills in my personal life and professionally in order to contribute to the improvement of the quality and access of education in Zambia.
